Leading change (1-day development program)

The secret art of influencing and motivating those around and above you

Sydney · Melbourne · Canberra · Brisbane

1-Day Program for Public Sector Leaders

Leading change can feel like waging a war, it can be intense, brutal and messy. It’s a war that’s won in the trenches, person-by-person. There are early adopters that will come on board easily, and at the other extreme, there will be some you may never win over. The space in between is your battle ground! Equip yourself with the mindsets and tools needed to generate buy-in from critical stakeholders and bring them on the journey, knowing that the harder someone is to bring on-board, the more passionately they’ll fight for you once you’ve won them over.

Program agenda

1. Expand your influence

Understand the 4 components of influence and how you can use them to expand your sphere of influence over time

2. Define a shared vision

Understand how strategic foresight and parallel-thinking can be used to lead collaborative exploration of possible futures and agree on a shared vision for the future you’ll work towards together.

Walk away with a tailored plan for how you will generate a shared vision for your initiative.

3. Forge partnerships

Most change initiatives are big enough that you can’t do them on your own. You need to tap into resources from other areas in the organisation and effect change across the organisation.

Learn how to use the power of intentions to forge effective partnerships.

Learn the Conversation Flow Theory framework and how it can be used to rapidly build and sustain rapport and credibility.

Walk away with a tailored step-by-step plan for a partnership you’re going to build or develop.

4. Win over difficult personalities

Every change agenda has supporters and haters. If your haters are influential, they can put your initiative at risk.

Understand the core motivations that intrinsically drive human fears and decisions and how they can be used to motivate people.

Walk away with a step-by-step process for winning over challenging personalities or reducing their ability to impact your initiative negatively. And a tailored plan for how you will address your current top blocker.

There’s a risk of evangelising when returning from these types of events but I can’t wait to share what I’ve learned to improve the culture of our workplace and the quality of our work environment

How do I know if this program is for me?

  • Have you ever had good ideas but struggled to get others to contribute time or resources to make them happen?
  • Have you ever wondered how to work out what motivates people and how to use that to win them over?
  • Do you have one or two key stakeholders who just won’t come on-board with the vision?
  • Have you ever felt it should be easier to lead change than it is?

If you answered yes to any of the above, this program is for you

These techniques are aimed at those leading change initiatives but are also invaluable for anyone who leads a team or wishes to increase their influence over decisions that happen above and around them.

  • Executives
  • Managers
  • Team leaders
  • Specialists who wish to increase their influence over decisions

Who’s this program not suited to?

  • As we say, this war is won in the trenches person-by-person. These techniques take practice and trial and error before you find the tactic that is going to work with each stakeholder.
  • If you don’t believe there might be a better way to influence people or you don’t feel you have the commitment to give this a genuine go, then this program is not going to be effective for you.

Similarly, if you’ve spent many years actively honing your own influence and you find it’s easy to win people over and can reliably get all the key players on-board with your vision, then we have nothing to teach you. You have already mastered the art of influence and motivation. Go forth and keep doing your thing!
